ZIM rugby is ready to rumble!
The Zimbabwe Rugby Union has named a charged-up 30-man Sables squad for the Rugby Africa Cup set to explode in Uganda from July 8 to 19.
This isn’t just about continental bragging rights, the tournament is a straight ticket to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. And coach Pieter Benade isn’t taking chances.
He’s summoned the big guns and raw talent, mixing battle-hardened warriors with fresh blood. Star winger Matthew McNab is back in the national jersey after a two-year break, having been busy in the English Championship. Now with Doncaster
Knights, the 27-year-old is expected to bring fire down the wing.
Also returning is crafty flyhalf Lenience Tambwera, ready to back up Australian-based general Ian Prior as the Sables charge toward glory.
And there’s a surprise pick — teenage scrumhalf Tyrone Gombe — who’s been handed a shot at greatness on the biggest stage of African rugby.
Zimbabwe’s first challenge? A bruising opener against Morocco. Win that, and it’s a showdown with either bitter rivals Uganda or Kenya.
