SADC PF executive committee members, who are in Namibia for the body’s inaugural meeting, laid a wreath at the tomb of Namibia’s founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma, who died early this year.
Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda is leading Zimbabwe’s delegation to the meeting.
The delegation also paid tribute to Dr Hage Geingob, the country’s former President, who died last year.
“In a solemn tribute at Namibia’s Heroes’ Acre, Advocate Mudenda joined other delegates in laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, led by the President of the Sadc PF, Advocate John Tokely.
“The delegation then paid homage to Namibia’s founding President, Dr Nujoma and the late President Dr Hage Geingob,” reads a statement from Parliament.
Dr Nujoma is among the African stalwarts who led the continent’s fight against colonialism.
The Sadc PF delegation also paid a courtesy call on Dr Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who was elected Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia last week.
“The delegates then visited the Sadc PF headquarters, a state-of-the-art facility generously donated by the Republic of Namibia, a testament to Namibia’s enduring commitment to regional integration and parliamentary development,” reads the statement.
