THE 2026 SADC Sustainable Energy Week (SEW) has officially kicked off in Victoria Falls, with delegates from across the Southern African Development Community gathering to chart a path towards a cleaner and more prosperous future.

The week-long conference, hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Power Development in partnership with the SADC Secretariat and SACREEE, is running under the theme: Driving Regional Economic Growth through Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency.

The event has attracted energy ministers, policymakers and industry leaders from all 16 SADC member states.

The programme for Monday, the first full day of the event, is packed with high-level technical sessions designed to tackle the region’s most pressing energy challenges.

A major focus is on scaling up renewable heating and cooling solutions.

The 9th Southern African Solar Thermal Training and Demonstration Initiative (SOLTRAIN+) Conference, one of the key sessions on Monday, is set to feature discussions on energy policies, net-zero goals and innovative solar technologies.

Simultaneously, a key session titled: Scaling Up and Integration of Clean Cooking is addressing the urgent need for sustainable energy access in sub-Saharan Africa.

Delegates are also examining the policies required to bolster energy security and drive economic development.
