adminCAPE TOWN. — After striking a deal with Siyaya TV, Danny Jordaan has confirmed that South African Football Association are in “talks” with South African Broadcasting Corporation to continue broadcasting games. According to Kick-Off, SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed at SAFA’s annual general meeting that Siyaya TV deal is worth R1 billion. The deal is set to heavily disrupt the state broadcaster’s ability to broadcast the games.
Siyaya TV’s deal earned the pay-TV channel the right to show all senior men’s and women’s matches live, but Jordaan insists that the SABC will not be left in the dark following the expiration of their current deal.
“We are currently in talks with SABC.
“We recognise that they are the public broadcaster,” said the SAFA president.
SAFA’s current deal with the SABC expires in May 2015, paving the way for Siyaya TV to continue to broadcast all games played by the national soccer teams.
SAFA reportedly stand to earn R175 million a year from this deal.
It is reported that SAFA’s deal with the SABC earned the national soccer body in the region of R215 million a year, since May 2012. — Sport24.
