Saints leapfrog Man U

Southampton moved above Manchester United and into third in the league as Dusan Tadic’s second-half goal settled a game of few chances at Old Trafford yesterday.Louis van Gaal’s side failed to have a single shot on target as their 10-match unbeaten run in the league was ended.

Tadic scored the only goal of the game when he tapped in calmly from 12 yards after Graziano Pelle’s effort had come back off the far post.

The Reds improved after the goal but Juan Mata missed two good chances.

Super Sanchez

In an earlier game, a sublime Alexis Sanchez scored twice and created a third as Arsenal climbed level on points with fourth-placed Southampton following a 3-0 Premier League victory against Stoke City.

After Laurent Koscielny headed Arsenal into a sixth-minute lead from a Sanchez cross the outstanding Chilean fired in a brilliant second before scoring with a deflected freekick for his 18th goal in all competitions this season.

Arsenal’s win was soured somewhat by a serious looking injury to defender Mathieu Debuchy but the Gunners were able to welcome back German World Cup-winner Mesut Ozil following a lengthy injury absence.

Victory lifted Arsenal above rivals Tottenham Hotspur to fifth on the Premier League table. — BBC
