Saints lose to Technosphere

PREMIERSHIP football hopefuls Technosphere got off to a flying start in the ZIFA Southern Region Division One league after putting up a polished show to silence visiting Zimbabwe Saints in a lively match played before a huge crowd at the No 1 Old Ground yesterday afternoon. True to their director Ozias Taruvinga’s declaration last week that his side will be in the elite league come next year, the boys did not disappoint in front of the home fans in a contest they could have won with a rugby scoreline had they not been wasteful in front of goal.

Polite Moyo grabbed the first goal in the 18th minute after rising high to connect a curling corner kick from Justice Kaunda to power home a flashing header past impressive Chauya Chikwata goalkeeper Wandile Ndlovu.

The visitors came back in the second half more determined but found Technosphere defence unyielding.
Their hopes of salvaging something from the match ended in the 68th minute when substitute Remmy Masuku punished the Saints rearguard for laxity in the box by hammering a grounder past Ndlovu to end the match as a contest.

Meanwhile, league debutants Kabwe Warriors and ZPC Hwange settled for a one all draw in a pulsating derby match played at Chakona Stadium.
Kabwe, coached by former ZPC Hwange coach Solomon Kaseke scored first through Governor Sikapila in the 19th minute while power generators replied through Isaac Banda in the 49th minute.

At Chakona Stadium hosts Mpumalanga Football Club edged Old Nic Mine 1-0 through a goal by Yossef Wasili in the 70th minute.
Today Hwange comes alive when Hwange FC welcome Green Buffaloes in a Castle Lager Premier League opener at the Colliery Stadium.
