Sakubva Hurricanes gear for MBA season opener

ALL is set for Manicaland Basketball Association opening season tournament tomorrow (Saturday) at Ralyton Sports Club in Mutare. Sakubva Hurricanes have been leaving no stone unturned in their quest to leave a mark this season. They vowed to give perennial pacesetters, Mercenaries a good run for their money. In an interview, Sakubva Hurricanes coach, Tatenda Manyika, said: “We did our part as far as training is concerned and we are now waiting for the tournament to roll into life. We are aiming for a top three finish in the league this season for us to book a place in the national finals.”
He said they would be welcoming back two of their players who had stints in South Africa recently.

“Nothing will stop us from winning with Lincoln Mashaya and Lesly who were based in South Africa now back in our fold. We have so much trust in them and they will surely play a big role in our quest of being among the best.  We also welcoming back one of our veteran players, Liberty Mavhunga, whose experience will be vital to motivate our youngsters,” said Manyika.

Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo confirmed that 16 teams for both boys and girls will converge at Ralyton Sports Club for the season opening tournament. The teams to participate include Dangamvura, Dangamvura Nights Academy, Dangamvura Sixers, Mercenaries, Morningside Chiefs, Africa University, City Sophists, Chipinge Bucks, Buffalo, Wolves and Mighty Bucks as well as Wemba’s team.
Dhliwayo called upon the sport’s lovers to come in large numbers to support local basketball.

“Everyone is invited to share the good moments together while supporting basketball in Manicaland as we are also welcoming new teams in the league,” said the MBA spokesperson.
