Man fined $20 for stealing shoe polish

A 21-YEAR-OLD Sakubva man was fined $20 for stealing shoe polish from OK Supermarket. Christopher Wachi Marima of House Number 288, New Chisamba, Sakubva was caught red-handed by an alert security guard, Cox Mvukwe as he tried to run away with the unpaid polish. He pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Nyasha Kuture. Mr Obert Chifamba prosecuted.
On August 26, Marima went into OK Supermarket and Mvukwe kept a close eye on him.

He picked 500ml of brown Nugget polish worth $1 and hid it in his trousers which he was wearing.
Mvukwe was monitoring Marima’s movements and he saw him walking out without paying for the polish.
He followed Marima outside and apprehend him.

They searched his pair of trousers and recovered the polish.
In mitigation, Marima said: “I wanted to polish my shoes Your Worship, but I did not have money to buy the polish.”

In sentencing him, Ms Kuture said: “You are still a youth and you should look for other jobs to earn a living. However, I am giving you a punishment so that you desist from that act.”
