MOHAMED SALAH has fired a parting shot at Arne Slot by calling for Liverpool to return to Jurgen Klopp’s heavy-metal football.
Liverpool’s disastrous season continued on Friday night as they were thumped by Aston Villa and slipped to fifth in the Prem.
The Reds are in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification and Salah has now ramped up the pressure on Slot.
The winger, who is leaving Liverpool in the summer, criticised the team’s style of football this season in an explosive statement posted on X yesterday.
And the Egyptian also called for a return to the approach adopted by Klopp, who was famed for the ‘heavy-metal football’ he used during his nine years at Anfield.Salah said: “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions.
“It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. “I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.
“That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good.
“It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.
“Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.
“As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.”
Salah’s comments come in the wake of a poor performance by Liverpool at Villa Park as they blew the chance to secure Champions League football for next season.
The Reds are now just four points clear of Bournemouth in sixth, who have a game in hand, and they host Brentford on the final day next weekend.Slot is convinced he will be in charge next season, but his side were booed off at Anfield after a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in their last match there. The Dutchman was subjected to chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” by Villa fans on Friday night and the reigning champions are 20 points off Prem leaders Arsenal —Sun.
