Sale of expired drugs backfires

Fungi Mangena.
Chari denied charges of contravening Section (51) of the Drugs and Allied Substance Control Regulations.
However, Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa found her guilty after a trial. Ms Mugwagwa fined Chari US$50. If she fails to pay the fine she risks going to jail for two months.
On August 6 Ms Mangena went to Chari’s pharmacy at Town Centre. She bought drugs that her doctor had prescribed and returned home. On the same day she took one tablet as per instructions. After a few minutes, she started feeling pain on her tongue, nose and eyes. She then scrutinised the drugs on the next day and noticed that they were expired.
She went back to the Pharmacy to change the drugs only to be advised that they were out of stock.
She reported the matter to the police leading to Chari’s arrest. Ms Tafadzwa Makwande prosecuted.
