A PLUMTREE man threw a fiery tantrum over bland food, smashing his father’s bedroom window and threatening to kill him – all because his dinner didn’t have enough salt!

The bizarre incident unfolded in Embakwe Village, Matabeleland South, where 29-year-old Amkela Mpala allegedly turned violent after scoffing down a saltless meal his father had cooked.

Mpala, who was reportedly drunk, stormed into his father Mutshiyeni Mpala’s bedroom at around 11PM on 31 March, demanding answers over the missing salt.

Not satisfied with the explanation, he is said to have grabbed an unknown object and smashed the windowpane, threatening to kill his father if he didn’t “bring the salt!”

Fearing for his life, the terrified father bolted from the house and fled to Madabe Police Post, where he reported the matter. The damage? A US$5 windowpane, but a priceless family fallout.

Amkela appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, facing charges of malicious damage to property.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to 7 April for trial continuation.
