Sam Mtukudzi’s tombstone to be unveiled today

Mtukudzi lost his son Sam in a car crash on March 15, 2010 that also claimed the life of his childhood friend and sound engineer Owen Chimhare.

Although by yesterday, Mtukudzi or simply Tuku, could not comment on whether or not he was going to feature at the Mutare Music Festival, his manager Sam Mataure said the tombstone unveiling was a private function.

“I think some of these things you should just let pass. It is a private function and I don’t think it’s newsworthy,” he said.
Born in 1988, the late Sam fought hard to be his own man although his father could provide him with everything he still wanted to do his own things hence the name of his second album “Cheziya” while his first album “Rume Rimwe” released in 2007 was an anthem.

At the time of his death Sam had been holding a number of shows with his father-cum-mentor across the country dubbed “Nzou Nemhuru Mudanga”, a project designed to groom the young Mtukudzi as the heir to Tuku Music.
