records.
(1) The victory marked the FIRST time this season that Dynamos won a match after falling behind.
Until Sunday, Dynamos had LOST all matches in which they fell behind and these were against Kiglon (0-1), Motor Action (0-2), Zimbabwe Saints (0-1) and Blue Ribbon (1-2).
l So CAPS United will be remembered as the FIRST team to take the lead against Dynamos and lose the match this season.
(2) But more significantly for Dynamos, Sunday’s victory meant that they had completed a league double over CAPS United for only the second time in the era of the modern Premiership.
It means Lloyd Mutasa achieved in his first season as Dynamos coach what the club’s great Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa also did on his return to the club in 1994.
Mhofu won the Premiership title in three of those seasons – 1994, 1995 and 1997, missing out to CAPS United in 1996 and Highlanders in 1998/99.
Mhofu holds a proud record of NOT losing a Premiership match to CAPS United during his reign between 1994 and 1999 – he claimed the double on his first attempt.
In 1994 Dynamos beat CAPS United 2-0 and 1-0 at Rufaro for what had been the only league double over their bitter rivals in the modern era of the Premiership.
- Since the start of the Premiership in 1993, CAPS United registered the double over Dynamos in 1993, 2004 and 2005.
- While it took Mutasa just two matches to claim two league wins over CAPS United, Dynamos had managed just two league wins over Makepekepe in 16 matches since 2003.
- The only league wins by Dynamos over CAPS United between 2003 and 2010 were in 2007 under David Mandigora (1-0) and last year under Elvis “Chuchu” Chiweshe (2-1).
- The other 14 matches yielded SEVEN draws and SEVEN wins for CAPS United.
