Sanctions bar Zanu-PF from reaching diaspora

imposed on Government and Zanu-PF leadership remain in place, Zanu-PF secretary for legal affairs, Cde Emmerson Mnangangwa has said.
“They (MDC formations) want those in the Diaspora to vote simply because they are able to go out there and address them . . .
“We have been barred from visiting those countries and how do they expect us to do the same.
“Sanctions must go first and if they don’t, I don’t think those in the Diaspora can also vote until they return home. For the ground to be level, we are saying the illegal sanctions must go,” he said.
Cde Mnangagwa said this while addressing hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters at a belated victory celebration party in Chiwundura last Sunday for House of Assembly member Cde Kizito Chivamba, who won against the MDC-T in 2008.
Cde Mnangagwa also urged party members to remain united and work towards electoral victory in general polls expected soon.
He said although it was not clear when elections would be held, it was crucial for party cadres to “always” be ready to deal with the two MDC formations and their Western allies.
“It was an agreement made on the formation of this inclusive Government that elections would be held after 24 months.
“Now the time has lapsed and it is now time to get ready for elections and vote resoundingly for our party (Zanu PF).
“Although the dates are not clear, let’s be prepared to deal with this MDC. I know there are some people who might not want to hold elections but we are saying it is now time to remain with one leader and that leader is President Mugabe.
“Yours is a simple task, just go and register and vote Zanu-PF, a party with history and together we will bury this combined British and American sponsored party,” he said.
Cde Mnangagwa, who is also the Minister of Defence reminded party cadres to safeguard the country’s independence, which he said came as a result of a protracted armed struggle.
“The liberation struggle was fought and some were wounded, tortured and a lot died but now we are free and it is time to safeguard what we have by voting for the party,” he said.
He reiterated that Zanu-PF would not allow imposition of candidates in the forthcoming elections and would be guided by the party’s resolutions passed at the 11th Annual National People’s Conference in Mutare last year.
He said the party would maintain its democratic principles and people would choose candidates of their choice.
