Sanctions frustrate military

Speaking last week during a pass-out parade of 60 ZNA officers who completed training in armoury at Inkomo Barracks, Colonel Josiah Kudumba said the graduands trained under “extremely” hard conditions.

“In a bid to frustrate efforts made by Government to address the land issue since 2000, Western countries imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe,” said Col Kadumba.
“The course was conducted under extremely hard conditions which led to fuel shortages for exercise and basic necessities to sustain their course.

“However, the soldiers endured to meet the required standards despite these challenges.”
Col Kadumba said the hardships that the armed forces were facing were just a passing phase and urged officers to remain vigilant.

“We are fully prepared in pursuit of our constitutional mandate to defend the territorial and sovereignty of our beloved nation,” he said.
“As loyal servicemen and women we should be fully aware that the hardships we are currently experiencing are just but a passing phase.”

Among the 60 students were 47 drawn from the crew commander’s course and 13 from the troop second in command within the mechanised brigade and combat groups.
Among the graduates were five women.
