POWER couple, Selmor Mtukudzi and Tendai Manatsa, returned from a “successful” tour of the United Kingdom minus their band manager, Sandra Mtukudzi.
The camp said Sandra opted to remain behind after getting a job in England.
Insiders said Sandra, the oldest daughter of the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, had been processing her documents for the greater part of the last year.
“We were together in the United Kingdom during our tour, but Sandra told us she was no longer coming back. At first, we thought she was kidding, but we later realised that she meant it when she stayed behind.
“For the better part of last year, she was processing her papers and we later realised that she was really serious about relocating.
“We are going to miss her because she was a vital cog in the band,” said an insider.
The source said Sandra’s departure was a huge blow to the band since she was a unifier.
“In life there are some people who are irreplaceable as is the case with Sandra.
“Sandra, a carbon copy of the late Oliver Mtukudzi, played a major role in the band. She was a gifted singer and dancer who believed in humility.
“She really worked under her sister with distinction, which is a rarity with some siblings. She was willing to take orders from her younger sister,” added the source.
Sandra is not the first band member to stay behind after a tour of the United Kingdom.
At the turn of the century, Alick Macheso and the late Tongai Moyo were deserted by band members in the United Kingdom.
Jah Prayzah has also been deserted and so has Suluman Chimbetu, who recently lost his band manager and drummer Carlton Mparutsa who opted to remain behind after touring the United Kingdom.
