Dubbed Santa Fair, the event will run from 21 to 25 December.
One of the organisers, Mr Vukani Mhlanga, said the Santa Fair concept was inspired by the prevailing harsh economic situation in the city, which has led to the closure of many companies.
“The four-day event will be characterised by shopping, entertainment and a celebration extravaganza since we intend to set up stalls in the open spaces of the entire Bulawayo Centre,” said Mr Mhlanga, who is the sales and marketing officer for the event.
He said the fair will be officially opened by the Mayor, Councillor Thaba Moyo.
About 150 stalls will be erected for the event.
“We will set up an entertainment section for children so they get the opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus, with stalls offering fast foods, snacks, drinks and candy including fun games.
“People in attendance will be treated to a wide array of entertainment with deejays, drama and choir groups from all over Bulawayo,” he said.
Mr Mhlanga said there are plans to barricade Main Street between 9th and 10th avenues to erect a stage.
“On 24 December we intend to accept donations from well-wishers including companies which will go towards feeding the less privileged on Christmas Day,” he said.
Santa Fair’s chief marketing officer Mr Bekezela Mabuza said in the future they intend to take the Fair to other cities in the country.
“Once we have staged Santa Fair in the city of Bulawayo, we wish to take it to other cities throughout Zimbabwe in the form of a franchise.
“We are currently working with students and professionals to make the fair a success, we have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bulawayo Centre owners for the use of their premises,” he said.
He said Santa Fair welcomed all business people in Bulawayo to come and exhibit their products to attract potential future clients.
