Santa Claus or Father Christmas is a legendary figure of western culture said to make lists of children throughout the world, categorising them according to their behaviour (a?gooda? and a?bada?, or a?naughtya? and a?nicea?) and to deliver presents, including toys, and candy to all of the well-behaved children in the world, and coal to all the misbehaved children, on the single night of Christmas Eve up to the morning of Christmas.
We grew up believing in such things. Children in Bulawayo have a chance to experience Santa at ZITF at an event dubbed Santaland. Itas all round entertainment for kids. The event will end onA 20 December. I was touched by how kidsa faces lit at seeing a?Santaa? and all those games.
Anyway since Santa is already in town. Itas only proper that I check what he has in store for the arts Industry. I know we have been bad for most of the year.
Fighting among ourselves as well as other things. But there have also been amazing moments from the industry. Local shows appealed to audiences and artistes came together to do events.
There was a significant rise in the number of productions from our city this year. All that should make my end of year piece.
So whatas happening this December? Today a new club for the mature opens here in Bulawayo. The Club is called Connect. It will be housed at Cecil Hotel.
Itas the third instalment by Biggie after Club263 and Private Lounge. We are always appreciative when new performing arts spaces are opened. Oskido and Kalawa will as usual take care of 25 and 27 December with Oskidoas All White Christmas Party and Kalawaas Home Coming gig respectively.
There is a cause for excitement in the City. Local Radio station Skyz Metro are now live. They are holding an event with their partners tomorrow at Redwood in Figtree. There is going to be a train ride and performances by some of our local artistes.
I miss the Bohlingers Tight Party. It just had its own way of capping the year. Anyway not to worry too much, somehow people always have something to do on the 31st of December. There are many events happening up to the beginning of the year. Watch out for #JavasBroadCasts or request to be on his broadcast list on 0772903459.
December is not complete without Ibumba International Festival of Arts. The seven-day fiesta kicks off tonight with the official opening at Stanley Square featuring various local and regional acts taking turns to entertain revellers over the whole week.
