SONGBIRD and Mr & Miss Twins founder, Sarah Dee, said she was disappointed by dignitaries who did not attend her album launch.
The voluptuous artist said her dream was to be recognised by music gurus.
“Being belittled by fellow Zimbabweans and being less valued than other artists after working so hard and receiving zero remuneration is the worst thing that can happen to a person.
“What hurts me the most is inviting Ministries and arts gurus to events and in particular, my album launch, and not a single one of them attended nor sent representatives.
“This makes me wonder if I am any less than other artists they take time to support,” she said
Sarah said that her album launch was a success though.
“The album launch was lit, although the music gurus I expected never came. There were no promoters, ZIMURA officials or anyone from NACZ and the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.
“This is something I wasn’t expecting. I was hurt, but it’s okay. When they call me for programmes, I have always gone wholeheartedly, but when I invited them on my day, they never showed up.
“It opened my eyes that I should not give up until I mean something to them. I will work really hard and hopefully, I will not be begging them to attend, but for them to look for me as one of the most sought-after artists,” she said.
She said her biggest inspiration comes from female artists who value their culture.
“The hard work of the late Brenda Fassie, Platform One, Patricia Majalisa, Mafikizolo and Miriam Makeba inspires me,” she said.
She said her favourite performance was the Tisvikewo tour.
“The Tisvikewo tour with Slizer for the first time in Zimbabwe was my best despite the manager running away with money and not paying us,” she said.
