AFRO pop artist, Sarah Dee, believes her Divas in Action Zimbabwe campaign, is the right platform meant to fix the problem of women not getting much airplay.
As part of her campaign, Divas in Action will be hosting a music gala at Pakare Paye in Norton, on July 15.
The line-up for the day features Brity Yonly, Lady Storm, Chipo Muchengwa, Lioness, Margaret Manhando, Chido Machanzi, Tendai Chimombe and Sehlaphi Mthombeni.
This year’s edition will be held under the theme: “If you empower a woman, you would have fed the nation.”
In an interview, she said the event is meant to showcase female talents.
“We are tired of complaining yet we are not heard. We have created our platform where we can’t be taken advantage of because our industry is, indeed, dirty in terms of being treated like nothing worth but sex toys.
“We say enough is enough, we can create our platforms and move on.
“Now, promoters will not have a hustle of asking ‘unomboimba chii’ because we are determined to rewrite their success stories and be paid handsomely by promoters.
“We don’t want females to be treated less and be underpaid. We have taken a step which shows that we value our arts; these are our careers.”
She added: “As mothers, we need to grow our brands. It’s high time the corporate world discovered that female artists are very talented but they need a little push and sponsorship.
“It’s not easy to build a star.
“Building a star has a few things which have to move together. Platforms should support us financially and physically with resources and equipment, to produce good music you have to find a good producer and a good producer is expensive.
“If we can get loans from banks we can fund our careers and create side hustles, which can make us earn a living without pressure and produce good music.”
