Saurombe gets act together

is ranked third on the local circuit, beat 46 professionals who took part in the fourth edition of the Golden Pilsner Zambezi Tour. The golfer, who was a dark horse going into the tournament, scored 71, 70 and 73 to pocket the US$3 200 first prize.

Saurombe believes his game is improving.
“I think my game has improved significantly. It was high time I had something to smile about,” he said.
“I just thank everyone who gave me support as I went into the tournament. Everyone plays to win and I am very happy and l look forward to good games in the future.”

Pre-tournament favourite Ignatius Mketekete settled for second place.
The Leopard Rock Golf Course is a 71 Standard Scratch.

Mketekete collapsed on the final day as he threw away a five-stroke advantage, going into the last nine holes, after a disastrous nine on the Par 4 11th hole. He had led into the final round after a brilliant second day 66.
Mketekete was on a comfortable five-under par on the eleventh, in the final round, when he twice went out of bounds to drop four shots.

The second retake ended up in the left bunker and the golfer had to struggle from the beep sand bunker forcing him to drop two more shots. By the time he recovered to go onto the green the frustrated Mketekete made three putts to end up on four-over-par on a single hole.

The golferpocketed US$ 2 400.
Phillip Tshuma, who is good at being a pacesetter, will have to wait a little longer to win a tournament. He was, as usual, among the leaders after he scored 70 and 69 on the first two days.
But the final day saw the lanky golfer shot a 77 to fall two shots behind the eventual winner. Julius Kamalizeni, Mohammed Mandhu and Tich Masemburi were tied on fourth.
