A HARARE woman has been granted a protection order against her husband, whom she claims has a girlfriend who lives in their neighbourhood.
Melisa Magamba told the court that her husband, Savage Marwei, was a violent man who physically abused her because he had a lover in the same neighbourhood.
“He stays somewhere in the neighbourhood with his new lover and when he returns, he beats me up telling me that he no longer loves me.
“His girlfriend even calls him asking whether I am still around so that she can come over,” said Melisa.
She told the court that Savage had been trying to evict her to create space for his girlfriend and their two-month-old baby.
Savage denied the accusations.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira asked Savage why his wife would make such accusations against him?
He claimed that Melisa was violent and chased him from home.
Magistrate Mashavira ordered Savage to stay away from their matrimonial home and not to sell any property without Melisa’s consent.
She warned Savage that failure to comply with the protection order would result in his arrest, and also advised the couple to seek counselling.
