over groceries to 51 households made up of the elderly, people living with HIV and Aids, orphans and the vulnerable living at Matapi Hostels in Mbare.
The foodstuffs included mealie-meal, cooking oil, sugar, soap and kapenta.
The donation is a result of an initiative spearheaded by Cde Savanhu to provide basic necessities to needy people in Mbare.
“The programme is meant to assist the needy people in Mbare after we realised that there are a number of households with elderly persons, others living with HIV and Aids and orphans that are failing to fend for themselves,” he said.
“After we identified the households we then sourced these grocery items and we intend to take it to all the 12 political districts we have in Mbare as a party.”
Cde Savanhu said at least 600 households would benefit under the programme. Cde Savanhu visited each household accompanied by Pastor Alwyn Bizure of Adonnai Ministries who prayed for the sick.
In an interview, Pastor Bizure commended Cde Savanhu and the Zanu-PF leadership in Mbare for putting God’s word into practice by assisting the disadvantaged groups in society.
“This gesture by Cde Savanhu shows Zanu-PF has God-fearing leadership that are obedient and visionary,” he said.
“Even the Bible says blessed is he who has regard for the poor, and what we are witnessing today is a fulfilment of that.”
One of the beneficiaries Ms Matirasa Mudzivari thanked the Zanu-PF leadership for the gesture.
“I want to thank Cde Savanhu and the party (Zanu-PF) for remembering us in our time of need and just hope that they continue doing the good work,” she said.
