THE Premier Soccer League is worried with the confusion engulfing the country’s supreme soccer governing body, chief executive Kenny Ndebele has said. Ndebele, who has been earmarked to head the secretariat in the new dispensation, insists the league is not taking a position on the matter but wants to see an end to the drama and order restored.
“It is evident for all to see that there are problems at the national football governing board,” said Ndebele. “As an affiliate I wouldn’t want to say we are supporting the establishment of a new association or the continuation of the old but our position is that we want order which clearly is not there at the moment.
“Our worry as an affiliate is that such problems if unattended will no doubt impact negatively on the general development of the game and at worst invite a Fifa ban.
“You are aware that such ban will affect us as an affiliate in that there are programs which will then fail to carry out under such circumstances like club licensing and participating in international competitions.”
Ndebele shot down claims that the PSL would be swallowed by creation of a National Football Association of Zimbabwe that will have league chairman Peter Dube as second vice-president.
“We have heard such concerns as well but I can assure you that the PSL remains a semi-autonomous affiliate of the national football association. We have governors who sit on the executive committee of the association. As for the appointment of my chairman to the Zifa board as well as my seconding it is all a matter of us wanting to help bring order.
“Personally, I am primarily the chief executive of PSL, anything other than that is just a hand of assistance,” said the respected football administrator.
