From the dusty streets of Iminyela suburb in Bulawayo, there is a fast-rising music gem who goes by the stage name “Scarrah,” who is conquering the musical circles and slowly gaining traction with his unique, fresh sound.

Born Irvine Brilliant Ncube, the 32-year-old artiste, was born in Lupane, and grew up in the City of Kings and Queens.

As a musician, Scarrah’s catalogue is filled with songs that send strong messages that are inspired by his daily routine, way of life and culture in his surroundings.

With the year already a month down, Scarrah is pushing himself to be a musical brand to reckon with, as his latest song Utshwala Ngiyabuthanda has charmed many. It’s also doing rounds on social media and enjoys a massive rotation on local radio stations.

The track, which is a fusion of Maskandi and Afro-Pop, was produced by Samukeliso Ngobese, with creatives Collin Beats, Dankie Moses and Soullo Deep credited in the mixing and mastering department.

It is accompanied by exciting visuals shot by Brooklyn Films, with most of its cinematography done at Iminyela.
“I am an emerging musician born in Lupane and bred in Bulawayo. My music and compositions speak true of the life situations that I come across every day.

“My latest song was inspired by the need to entertain people, give them something to dance to as I push my vision of balancing traditional and modern influences by fusing cultural values into modern lifestyles,” said Scarrah.

He said the journey has not been all rosy for him, as he found it hard to convince people to follow his type of music. However, with Utshwala Ngiyabuthanda, he believes he has struck the right chords, as the song delves into a topic that many can relate to.

“I started doing music in 2015 and I have one Extended Play (EP) titled Insewula, which features five tracks. I also have five singles. This year, I want to produce more works as I am working on growing my brand.

“I have faced so many challenges in trying to make a name in the game. Lack of finance to promote my music for it to reach its full potential is among many setbacks that have hindered my growth,” he said.

Scarrah, who is a mechanic by profession, said it is his dream to work with the country’s renowned artistes as he believes he belongs among the top stars.

“I want my music to inspire people to change their way of life and live it with purpose. It is also my dream to win awards and perform on bigger stages.

“I would also love to collaborate with Mzansi Maskandi muso Mthandeni, Siminofu, Gog’ Bekezela and Jeys Marabini because their music style and the messages inspires me,” said Scarrah. — @mthabisi_mthire
