A 39-YEAR-OLD man from Tsholotsho in Matabeleland North province employed as a groundsman at Dombo Primary school has been nabbed for allegedly raping a 12-year-old juvenile at the school garden.

Bright Mpofu appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of rape. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to Friday for continuation of trial.

State allegations against Mpofu are that sometime in April, he met up with the victim at the school garden and proposed love to her, but she declined.

He went on to grab the victim, tripped her to the ground and forced her to lie on the ground facing up. Mpofu stripped the juvenile, removed his trousers and went on to rape the victim once without her consent.

After the act, she dressed up and ran back home, she did not disclose the rape incident to anyone.
On 24 May 2024 at around 9am, at the school, Mpofu summoned the victim so that he could give her some money.

The victim then narrated the ordeal to her guidance and counselling teacher. She was escorted to Zimbabwe Republic Police station in Tsholotsho to report the matter leading to Mpofu’s arrest.

The juvenile was referred to Tsholotsho District Hospital where she was medically examined and a medical report can be produced in court as evidence.
