SCHOOL heads have been urged to affiliate for extracurricular activities to ensure the smooth organisation and successful hosting of high-quality competitions.

The call was made by Bulawayo businessman and bookshop owner Mr Lazarus Ngulube during the Matabeleland North National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) provincial choral music, Jikinya traditional dance and chess competitions held at the Amphitheatre in Bulawayo on Thursday.

“Affiliation is not just a fee — it is our collective strength and administrative engine. How a head handles small administrative duties reflects their broader stewardship of public resources,” said Mr Ngulube.

He said proper administration, a business-minded approach and excellence in school management were reflected in a school’s ability to affiliate on time.

Mr Ngulube also challenged the business community, industry players and community leaders in Matabeleland North to support school activities to help raise the province’s profile at national level.

“School heads can’t walk this path alone,” he said.

He said the competitions demonstrated the value of the Heritage-Based Curriculum, adding that the disciplines were not mere pastimes but important pillars of holistic education that help shape culture, national identity and development.
