SISHAWE Primary School in Bubi district in Matabeleland North needs US$10 000 for the completion of a two-classroom block which is at roof level.
Construction from foundation level was funded by Swift Link, a Canada-based community where Children’s Voice Charity boss Mr Collin Nyabadza is based.
Mr Nyabadza’s charity work which begun in the 1990s when he was a teacher at Tjewondo Primary School near Maphisa has seen him donate books and furniture to schools in Matabeleland.
The donation towards the building of the classroom block was noted last year when his Zimbabwean colleagues visited the school to donate books.
“We realised the need for classrooms at the school when our team had gone to donate some books and other educational resources. We then decided to intervene. We are being assisted on the project by one group in Swift Current where I live here in Canada.
The group is called Swift Link. Through their support the project is now at roofing level as we have already completed the superstructure,” said Nyabadza, a former St Columbu’s High School pupil.
He said they need about US$10 000 to buy roofing material.
“That would see us complete the structure for the children to move in. Our main worry is the rains that are coming pretty soon. We don’t wish to have the rains to put to waste the massive efforts that the community has put into this project. We are therefore appealing for help from local businesspeople, organisations and individuals to enable us complete this project,” he said.
Mr Nyabadza has a number of volunteers abroad and in Zimbabwe working tirelessly for a better education environment for children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
He said Children’s Voice is a vehicle they are using to help foster the concept of volunteering and giving among Zimbabweans. In some countries it is embedded like a culture.
“We wish to have our people move away from the notion that people should only work for monetary gains or that humanitarian work is a domain reserved for people from the developed world only.”
Since its establishment in December 2012, the organisation has so far managed to complete several projects where they have assisted several schools with school furniture, soccer kits and books.
