A KNIFE-wielding Form Four female pupil at Mangwe District’s Khalanyoni High School recently stabbed and injured her schoolmate for allegedly ridiculing her in public.Concilia Ndlovu, 17, of Mayobodo area drew out a knife and stabbed 17-year-old Thabelani Nkomo in the chest and left shoulder when they were on their way from school.
Ndlovu appeared yesterday before Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa facing assault charges.
Ruvetsa suspended sentencing Ndlovu for the next five years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence within that period.
Prosecuting, Stanley Chinyanganya said Ndlovu confronted Nkomo who is also a Form 4 pupil at the same school on October 8 while they were at school asking why she had laughed at her for moving around begging for R1.
Chinyanganya said Nkomo ignored Ndlovu thinking that she was just fooling around.
“When they had knocked off around 4PM Ndlovu confronted the complainant for the second time while they were on their way from school. She told her that she would teach her a lesson by beating her up but the complainant just laughed and brushed the issue away,” said Chinyanganya.
He said Ndlovu then pulled out a knife from her bag and stabbed Nkomo twice, once on the left side of the chest and once on the shoulder.
She suffered some injuries and was referred to Brunapeg Hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the police and Ndlovu was arrested.
In her defence, Ndlovu told the court that when she asked her schoolmate why she had been making fun of her at school, she was not remorseful, hence she stabbed her. Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa lashed out at Ndlovu for her violent conduct.
“It is surprising that you are displaying such a violent character at your age and to make matters worse you are a girl. You are not expected to be carrying dangerous weapons especially a knife at your age. It is also disturbing that you had the audacity to carry a knife to school,” said Ruvetsa.
He urged school authorities to closely monitor school pupils in order to ensure that they behave properly. He also urged parents to instil discipline in their children.
