Schools athletes meet at White City

ATHLETES from Bulawayo schools will today meet at White City Stadium for the second series of the Bulawayo Athletics Development Project (BADP).

The BADP is a combined initiative of the Naph and Nash, which involves primary and secondary schools.

Vusumuzi Mlilo, technical secretary of BADP, said they were expecting more participants today compared to the 300 that attended the first series.

“We didn’t expect such a huge turnout in June but we are really glad schools registered athletes for the event. We had no sponsors but secured donations from some companies enabling us to reward all winners,” said Mlilo.

He said the project had grown and pupils who enjoy athletics do not have to wait for the schools’ athletics calendar next year.

“Some pupils who participated last year have been registered again. Schools now understand the concept and are now working hand-in-hand with us to help identify and nurture talent at an early age, and thereby fostering the culture of participating in athletics throughout the year,” said Mlilo.
