MANICALAND, Masvingo, Mashonaland Central and Bulawayo will play host to different age group ball games national finals competitions as the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) has drawn their calendar from district level.
For the 15s and Under boys and girls age group, district finals roar into life on June 2, while the provincial finals have been slated for June 30 and the national finals from April 13 to 16.
Masvingo Province will be hosting the national finals for that age group.
The 15s and Under age group used to have sponsorship from Coca Cola until the start of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Post Sports understands that the age-old high schools’ football tournament — the Copa Coca Cola competition — could be back on the calendar for the first time since the Covid-19 lockdown as negotiations are still ongoing.
The exciting football competition was not held last year even though the lockdown regulations had long been relaxed and schools’ sports had resumed.
District finals for the Under-17 boys football competitions are scheduled for May 19, while the provincial finals have been set for May 26.
The national finals for that age group will be held in Mashonaland Central from June 15 to 16.
The Proton Surrey Under-20 boys’ football competition has been pushed to third term when the tournament starts with district finals on September 22 before the provincial finals that have been scheduled for a week later.
The national finals for the Proton Surrey Under-20 boys’ football competition will be hosted by Bulawayo Province from October 5 to 7.
Manicaland will host this years’ national finals for the Under-20 girls football competition which is yet to get a corporate partner.
The district finals for the Under-20 girls’ competition have been set for May 19 before the provincial finals that have been scheduled for June 9.
The national finals will be held on July 20 and 21.
NASH appears determined this time around to deal with issues relating to age cheating.
In their statement of calendar of events, NASH wrote: “All players should have an original Grade 7 result/certificate. A clean long birth certificate obtained not later than seven (7) years after birth, and ALL players 16 years and above should be in possession of national identity cards; otherwise they will not be allowed to participate in the tournaments.
“A laminated school identity card obtained not later than May 31, stamped and signed by school head. A clear A4 team photograph with names of all 20 players, head coach, assistant coach, team manager, medic and school head written in a manner that can be easy to identify anyone on the photograph.
“The team photograph must be stamped and signed at the back by the Head, the Zonal Head in Charge, District Head in Charge and the Provincial Head on the respective dates of competition at each level. Teams will use the same photo up to national level. A photo paper to be used instead of bond paper.”
