SOME schools were demanding that students produce receipts of full payment of fees before boarding buses to their boarding facilities yesterday.
The new school year starts today.
One parent, Felin Rusike, told H-Metro at the Robert Mugabe Home Square where most boarders board buses to school that schools must consider other alternatives such as payment plans for parents who cannot pay fees in full.
“We were informed via WhatsApp that our children have to produce receipts of full fees payment for them to be allowed to board buses,” said Rusike.
“I have two children, one in Form 1 and the other in Form 3.
“I paid the full fees for my Form 1 child so that she doesn’t miss orientation, while I look for money for my other daughter who is not able to go to school as they are not allowed to board the bus if they don’t produce receipts.”
Students milled around the square and some were frustrated by the delay in going to school.
“I was really looking forward to starting the new school year on a positive note, but this delay in the arrival of our buses is definitely putting a damper on things.
“It’s frustrating because we were told to be ready at a specific time, and now we’re left to wait with no clear information about when the bus will arrive,” said Melissa Chikwana, a Form 4 student.
