SCOTTLAND PLAYERS’ RECORD BONUSES. . . Players get US$2300 for hammering Royal Stars

SCOTTLAND players reaped the biggest cash bonus, from a single game, in domestic football when they pocketed US$2300 each after a crushing 5-1 win over DZ Royal Stars in a Northern Region Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

With title rivals MWOS being held to a goalless draw by Black Mambas at the Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot), Scottland are now just one point behind the leaders with three games to go.

If they get three points from their abandoned league match against Karoi United, Scottland will be the leaders of the championship race.

They have the momentum and, in their last three games, they have scored 14 goals and conceded only one.

On Monday, Scottland owner Scott Sakupwanya put the win bonus for the Matchday 35 game  at US$1500 per player.

He added a US$200 bonus per every “unreplied” goal.

The four-goal winning margin means the Scottland players secured US$800 more, taking the total to $2300 each.

Goals from Denver Mukamba, Jacob Nyakope, Ronald Pfumbidzai, King Nadolo and Allan Gahadzikwa were enough to give Scottland the big win.

Ronald Makoni scored the consolation goal for DZ Royal.

Scottland coach, Genesis Mangombe, said he was delighted with the team’s fighting spirit.

“I am very happy with the win, the boys showed great fighting spirit,” said Mangombe.

“The boys were training very well and I knew that we were going to score goals.

“It’s still a long way, we still have nine points to play for and it’s not going to be easy.

“But if we need to win the championship, we have to win all our remaining games and the boys are managing to score, which is positive.”

He said they were surprised why the judgment of their abandoned game against Karoi hasn’t been released.

“We have to wait and see but we thought the ruling was out already but we don’t know what’s delaying the outcome.”
