Church leaders have been urged not to confine themselves to preaching alone, but to embrace developmental projects in their community as part of efforts to ensure the fulfilment of Zim-Asset.

Chitungwiza councillor for Ward 25 Cde Simbiso Mhike (Zanu-PF), said it was everyone’s responsibility to ensure that Zim Asset was achieved and churches were not an exception.

Cde Mhike said this on Sunday in Chitungwiza during a launch of the renovation of Chitungwiza Clinic that coincided with the commemoration of the International Women’s Day.

The renovations were sponsored by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“We are happy to commemorate International Women’s Day doing community work.

“The church has embarked on a facelift for Chitungwiza Clinic through renovation of its ablution facilities among other things. They will also repair of roads.

“We wish other churches would emulate this,” said Cde Mhike who recently beat the MDC-T candidate to land the ward in a by-election.

He said the infrastructure of Chitungwiza had been crippled and the move by the church would go a long way in boosting service delivery in the dormitory town.

“If that can be emulated by other churches, it will go a long way in moving our country forward,” he said.

Seventh Day Adventist Pastor Blessing Nyahuma said they had realised that it was high time for the church to move away from its traditional role of preaching.

“As a church, we should move away from just preaching, we want faith with works,” he said.

Pastor Nyahuma said he was happy that their community work coincided with the commemoration of the International Women’s Day.

Some of the work that the church did at the clinic was to renovate ablution facilities and it intends to equip the clinic with furniture.
