THE Yorkshire Secondary School Development Committee chairman, Mr Nelson Marimo (52), died yesterday afternoon after a lightning bolt struck him on the school grounds.
The incident occurred around 3.10pm in Headlands as he was leaving the premises following a meeting.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the death, noting that a witness, Mr Shadreck Budala (34), saw the strike from a business centre, which is about 15 meters away.
He said Mr Budala rushed to the scene, found the victim unconscious, and alerted locals and the police.
Police attended the scene and transferred the body to Rusape General Hospital for a post-mortem.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged the public to exercise caution during the rainy season, advising people to avoid moving in storms, standing near tall objects, or seeking shelter under trees.
The tragedy follows previous incidents involving Marimo.
Lightning struck his kitchen hut last year, and earlier this year, he survived an accident when a lorry carrying school staff members and learners plunged into a river.
