THE wave of violent thunderstorm that wrecked Masvingo urban communities yesterday and areas in Chipinge District is expected to move into other parts of Manicaland, mainly Buhera District as well as urban and rural parts of Mutare District, this afternoon.

Violent thunderstorm hit Masvingo urban communities yesterday where more than 60 households were left counting their losses following considerable destruction to their properties, while some schools in Chipinge had their roofs blown-off.

In a communique shared today, the Meteorological Services Department focal person for Manicaland, Mr Tapiwa Maringo, said: “This afternoon we are expecting some violent thunder showers that will be much concentrated over Buhera District, tracking into Mutare Rural and Mutare Urban, then moving into Mozambique.

“That will be around 2pm to around 6pm. That is the peak period we are expecting the system to be active. For tomorrow, it will be some light showers due to the remaining moisture. The day after tomorrow, the weather will be actually becoming fine.”
