ASPIRING and practising sports administrators in Zimbabwe have been given another opportunity to enhance their skills following the opening of applications for the second edition of the International Programme in Sports Management, a joint initiative by Midlands State University (MSU), the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa), Fifa and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES).

The one-year programme, which will run from March to December 2027, follows the successful launch of its inaugural edition this year and is aimed at developing a new generation of professionally trained sports administrators.

According to Zifa, the programme is designed to equip participants with the practical knowledge and competencies required to navigate the increasingly dynamic and complex sports industry.

“Zimbabwe’s sports management journey is entering its second chapter,” said Zifa in announcing the second edition of the programme.

The association said the curriculum will cover key areas including sports management, communication, sports law, marketing and sponsorship, finance and event management.

Rather than relying solely on classroom instruction, the programme will combine face-to-face learning with online sessions, practical case studies and engagement with industry experts.

Zifa said the blended approach is intended to bridge the gap between academic theory and the practical demands of managing sports organisations and events.

The second edition also reflects the continued commitment of MSU, Zifa, Fifa and CIES to strengthening sports administration in Zimbabwe and nurturing leaders capable of driving the future growth of the country’s sports sector.

“The second edition reinforces the commitment of Msu, Zifa, Fifa and CIES to strengthening sports administration and developing a new generation of capable, professional and forward-thinking sports leaders in Zimbabwe,” said Zifa.

Applications for the programme close on November 13, 2026, with classes scheduled to commence in March next year.

The initiative comes at a time when professional sports administration is increasingly recognised as a critical component of sustainable sports development, with administrators expected to possess expertise that extends well beyond the field of play.

For Zimbabwe, the programme provides an opportunity for both serving sports professionals and aspiring administrators to acquire internationally aligned qualifications while building networks with fellow industry practitioners.

Zifa said the programme offers a valuable platform for individuals seeking to advance their careers and contribute meaningfully to the growth and professionalisation of sport in the country.
