BULAWAYO Models Association recently held its second edition of its awards at a local hotel.

It was a grand event that showcased the talents of Bulawayo’s models while also promoting and uplifting the modelling industry in the region.

The president of the association, Pardon Khaya-elihle Kanye described the event as a night to remember.

“Bulawayo Models Association is the mother body for Bulawayo modelling. It monitors, suggests and corrects irregularities within the industry,” Kanye said.

The association plans to grow the modelling industry in the city.

“Aspiring models should be prepared to work hard, because modelling is not child’s play, things will not come on a silver platter, if you want to prosper in this industry have determination and zeal to work for what you want,” Kanye said.

At the awards ceremony, the most outstanding model award went to Francisco Kampira, who started modelling at the age of 15.

“I feel honoured and happy that my works are finally noticed after some years and whoever is looking up to me, must be feeling more inspired,” said Kampira while receiving the award.

Kampira also recently won an award at the ROIL Bulawayo Arts Awards where he was adjudged to be an outstanding model.

“It all started at church, I am from Roman Catholic Church and I was practicing modelling as a hobby. Thank you to my fellow brother Clayton Bhexx Gumede, from my church, who helped me to go professional, he was also a model and he helped me to join Open Eye Studio,” Kampira said.

Kampira is the first Zimbabwean to write books about the modelling industry, with his first book being “How to Become a Professional Model.”

He said his ultimate goal is to see the modelling industry in Zimbabwe as an income-generating art project for one.
Francisco was founded and directed by Samantha Tshuma. His experience at the studio helped him develop his skills and establish a career in the modelling industry.

Botsi Lyra Noko, the reigning Miss World Heritage 2022 received two awards for the Outstanding Influencer and Outstanding Female Model of the Year.

Botsi was born in Hwange and moved to Bulawayo to pursue her studies, but all roads led her to modelling.

“I am deeply moved and grateful for the opportunity to share my story. Originally from Hwange, I came to Bulawayo to pursue my studies. However, along the way, I found myself becoming one of Bulawayo’s models, which has touched me in many ways. I firmly believe that God’s timing is flawless, and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has been supportive throughout my journey,” said Noko.

The Miss Plus Size Model Award was grabbed by Ntando Khumalo, whose journey to modelling started at a tender age when she was crowned Miss Pretty Face at Senzangakhona Primary School in Emganwini while she was still in Grade Five.

“I was always body shamed before modelling and I was tired of living in the shadows,” Ntando mentioned. “I feel it is a great achievement to win this award and I am so proud of myself, now the world can see that plus size is beautiful. I hope to inspire young models and all those who want to join the industry, I want someone to look at me and feel inspired.”

The event was sponsored by Azari Consultancy, Golden Globe Inc, Doves, Ubuhle Bendalo, Fish Eagle Sound and Chaemike.

The organisers of the Bulawayo Models Awards are looking for more sponsorship and support from the business community.
