LONDON. – All eyes will be on wildcard Serena Williams as she returns to Wimbledon tomorrow after a four-year hiatus.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist and 23-time Grand Slam winner is feeling “healthier than ever”, pals say, after losing 2½st on weight-loss medication Zepbound, similar to Mounjaro.
She began using it after having daughters Olympia, now eight, and Adira, two.
But her big comeback has sparked debate.
Some critics reckon Serena, 44, should not have received a place in the singles draw after so long away.
There is also a suggestion she has not done enough to prepare.
However, those closest to the star insist she is raring to go on Centre Court at SW19.
Away from tennis, Serena made a $111million fortune through her Serena Ventures investment fund, which suggests Wimbledon prize money is not her reason for competing.
And age is obviously no barrier.
She will take on Australian Maya Joint – the world No53 who, at 20, is less than half her age – in the first round.
Serena has described the physical preparation for her long-awaited return as “like riding a bike … uphill”.
She is no stranger to a hard slog, though, and her Wimbledon singles record is among the best ever, having won seven times. – The Sun
