PLUMTREE-based soulful musician Babongile Sibanda released a single, Inkani, last Friday, barely weeks after his nomination at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA).

Baboe, as some call the artiste, is in the race for winning the gong in the Outstanding Kwaito/House/Gqom category against the likes of La Dee, Leslie Kampila, Mzoe 7, MJ Sings and Djembe Monks.

This is Baboe’s second Roil BAA nomination after he was last year nominated in the Outstanding Newcomer of The Year category.

The Roil BAAs will be held at the Large City Hall on December 24.

Speaking to Chronicle Showbiz, Baboe said he has his fingers crossed when it comes to clinching his debut award as he has grown his wings to be an ambassador for Population Solutions for Health (PSH) behind the Love Shouldn’t Hurt campaign.

“I am very excited to be nominated once again this year and l just so hope that people will vote for me to win this and make Plumtree great.

“The nomination shows growth of my career as l am also PSH ambassador till next year November alongside renowned artistes who include Winky D among others,” he said.

To show that he has what it takes to bring the award to the border town, Baboe dropped the Inkani track which when listening to the teaser, is poised to be a December banger.

He said the making of the track was impromptu.

“I visited Victoria Falls a fortnight ago and while l was there I managed to record this upcoming track with producer DJ Ace Kater.

“I used to buy beats from him and we managed to record three tracks with Inkani being the first out. This is a December jam that l hope people will love and dance to and it’s a way of celebrating my second Roil BAA nomination in my career,” said Baboe. – @mthabis_mthire
