Some Apostolic sect groups continue to meet for services in violation of Covid-19 national lockdown regulations.
Under the lockdown regulations, all public gatherings are banned except for funerals where not more than 30 people are allowed to attend.
Union for the Development of Apostolic Churches and Zionists in Africa (UDACIZA) secretary-general Reverend Edson Tsvakai urged all apostolic members to adhere to the national lockdown regulations meant to curtail the spread of the deadly pandemic.
“We cannot win the fight against Covid-19 when we still gather to worship, we should obey and follow what our Government is saying about this disease which is continuing threatening the lives of majority of people in the world.
Recently the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned churches that are holding services and night vigils in defiance of the Covid-19 regulations stipulated by the Government.
Reports indicate that members of the Apostolic sects have been holding services as usual in some parts of the country with no social distancing in place in spite of a Government ban on public gatherings.
Thousands of Johane Marange followers were also holding their annual pilgrimage at Mafararikwa village in Bocha, Manicaland province, at a time when all public gatherings are banned as a Covid-19 containment measure.
