interview on Tuesday, Minister of State Security Sydney Sekeramayi said the recent murder of a police officer by suspected MDC-T youths was a wake up call for the security sector to be vigilant.
“The murder of the police officer is probably just the beginning of the agenda that these people are pursuing. We want our security to be alert and arrest the culprits and let the law take its course. Our security forces should sharpen their ears and eyes,” Minister Sekeramayi said.
He slammed MDC-T for calling for security sector reforms saying their stance was inspired by their Western sponsors.
He said the calls for security sector reforms sought to create confusion and dissension.
“The current commanders were the foot soldiers during the liberation struggle and for someone to suggest that the defence and security that has built the force since independence be reformed is uncalled for.
“These calls are externally inspired by the same countries that have imposed illegal sanctions on us and now they want to subvert our defence forces. This is a project propagated by our enemies.
“Imagine after the Second World War if the British and the Americans were told by Germany to remove their commanders who had brought them the victory, would they have agreed?
“We are very clear that our commanders are going nowhere and that they will continue to serve this country. No outsider can dictate to us who should lead our security forces,” Minister Sekeramayi said.
