A BULAWAYO man who worked as a security guard at a house in Lockview suburb is alleged to have hanged himself after thieves broke into his boss’ apartment and got away with a television set and groceries. Amos Mwende, 38, was found hanging from a tree 50 metres away from his boss’ house on Monday morning.

Chronicle yesterday visited the house and spoke to Girlie Zulu who said Mwende’s body had been taken to his rural home in Binga for burial.

Zulu who shared the house with Mwende said thieves broke into their property on Sunday. “We found him hanging on Monday at about 9AM. The night before he hanged himself, thieves broke into the house and stole a plasma television and groceries. Everything that was in the refrigerator was looted,” she said.

Zulu said the security guard used a wire to hang himself and added that they were shocked to find him hanging as he did not show any signs of stress.

She said Mwende had been working at the house for the past five years. “He had been working here for five years. He was staying in the cottage with his wife and four-month-old child,” said Zulu.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo could not be reached for comment as his cellphone was not reachable.
