Security guard robs ZB Bank of US$134 000 and R33 800

Crime Reporter

A 46-year-old security guard held ZB Bank Sanyati branch employees at gunpoint and got away with US$134 000 and R33 800 over the weekend.
Samson Mahohoma of 118 Arda Compound was employed by Peace Security and assigned to provide security services at the bank when he committed the offence.

Investigations revealed that on Saturday at around 1 pm, Rufaro Lungundiya (43), the branch manager, closed the bank and instructed all the workers to enter a cash room and count the money.

While the workers were in there, the suspect, armed with a rifle, entered the room and ordered everyone to lie down.

Mahohoma then stashed some money in a sack and ordered the workers to surrender their cellphones and keys.

He then left the room, locked the doors and disappeared with the loot.

The total value of the money stolen was US$134 000 and R33 800 and nothing was recovered.

Investigations are in progress.

Last week, five-armed robbers pounced on Fawcett Security premises in Chipinge and made off with US$111 000 and R1 281 320.

They were arrested barely two days after the heist following a tip-off that a Fawcett employee had provided key information on the company’s operations.
