Seven people were killed while 11 others were injured in separate road traffic accidents that were recorded over the weekend in Masvingo and Rusape.
In one of the accidents on Saturday, a Nissan Serena with eight passengers on board veered off the road and overturned before landing on its side after its rear right tyre burst at around 7.25 am at the 60-kilometre peg along the Roy-Chiredzi Road.
Four people were killed while four others were injured.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Msiso Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
Victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
In another fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 60-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare Road, three people were killed while seven others were injured when a Toyota Hilux with two passengers on board collided head-on with another Hilux that was carrying eight passengers.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
One of the three victims was identified by his next of kin as Chigweshe Tendai Amon (52) of Neshena Village, Makoni.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores motorists to exercise caution and avoid overtaking when it is not safe to do so.
“Above all, drivers are reminded to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.”
