Seed Co says it is ready to assist charitable homes in setting up sustainable projects to alleviate problems that they are                                     facing. The company’s communications manager Ms Marjorie Mutemererwa said this while donating mealie-meal worth US$3 600 at Harare Children’s Home yesterday.
Seed Co reached an agreement with Harare Children’s Home to provide mealie-meal and other foodstuffs for the children every month since 2005 and they have been honouring their promise.

“Our donation amounts to US$3 600 which went towards the purchase of 360kg of mealie-meal. As a corporate citizen, Seed Co is always looking for opportunities to make a difference in the community,” she said.

She added that their aim is to make the seed company one of the most admired brands across the nation by its clients, shareholders, regulators and communities.

“The issue of global recession has also put a strain on the social fabric and we are committed to the helping of the young ones who are the leaders of tomorrow.

“We seek to achieve this by sponsoring sustainable and noble causes such as this one,” she said.
Harare Children’s Home director Mrs Maria Sithole applauded the seed company and called other stakeholders should emulate the good work.

“This children’s home is a responsibility of every corporate citizen in the country. Therefore, all should emulate what Seed Co did today in answering to the call from the society,” Mrs Sithole said.

Seed Co also pledged to support projects meant to promote self sustainability of the home and the children.
Ms Mutemererwa said they were going to provide maize seed to the home to ensure that the children will be occupied most of the times.
Apart from maize seed, Seed Co is also going to provide tuition for children and the selection criteria is based on merit and degree of need.
The charity home currently has 80 children, 25 of which are already in secondary school.
