Seed Co to spread its wings in Africa

“We have been operating in Zambia for 14 years so we are expanding to Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, ” he said.
Seed Co currently has operations in 15 African countries and is headquartered in Zimbabwe.
The seed company is aiming to ensure that Africa becomes the breadbasket of the whole world as it currently distributes 25 000 tonnes of maize each year compared to the past five years where it only distributed 5 000 tonnes.
Seed Co had previously been importing seed from Zambia but now is self-sufficient as it has now recruited quality seed maize growers in Zimbabwe who are producing more seed.
The company intends to expand its market share in East Africa by growing the cotton seed business.
The company registered a 20 percent increase in revenue to US$117,71 million necessitated by a 22 percent increase in volumes from 55 063 metric tonnes to 67 241 metric tonnes.
Mr Nzwere said the company is currently sitting on huge stocks of maize seed, wheat seed, and soya seed and in the next few weeks will be the official opening of Seed Co Zambia’s business park.
