Local seed manufacturer, Seed Co, says it will be hosting a Virtual Employee Input Scheme Symposium (VEISS) that intends to encourage corporate leaders to procure maize seed for their employees as it continues to invent ways to retain the sector’s market share.
Directed at chief executive officers, managing directors, human resources executives, and all decision-makers, the virtual meeting will showcase Seed Co’s seeds to participants.
Seed Co encourages corporates and other organisations to purchase Seed Co seeds for their employees.
According to Seed Co’s senior manager for public relations and special programmes Ms Marjorie Mutemererwa, the scheme brings about an opportunity for internal corporate social responsibility and investment where corporates are encouraged to procure seeds for their employees either as gifts or as a deductible expense.
“Such an initiative will promote workforce productivity as this will boost employee morale,” she said.
“Instead of employees roaming around looking for seed that is suitable for their ecological regions, employers can purchase from Seed Co.
“This is about being innovative and managing downtime. It is also about positively enhancing employer and employee relationships.”
The various Seed Co varieties are suitable for various ecological regions.
Seed Co seeds is supported by 20 agronomists across the whole of Zimbabwe who work very closely with Agritex officers.
As part of the package, Seed Co will also offer good agronomic advice and best farming practices to ensure the country’s food security.
“As Seed Co, we also have new varieties in our product portfolio, in the Mbizi (Dube/Zebra) series, we have SC555, a real gem,” said Ms Mutemererwa.
“This variety has become very popular with farmers as it gives improved yields. It is a border-to-border high yielder.”
The Seed Co varieties encompass SC419 (very early maturity), SC657 (medium maturity), and SC729 (late maturity), whose varietal attributes cover every ecological and geographical region of Zimbabwe.
