adminChitungwiza magistrate, Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, sentenced Chikwaka (20) to six years but set aside one and half years for the next five years on condition of good behaviour.
Another six months were suspended on condition he restitutes US$135 to Chikwama and Zvomuya.
The court heard that on June 20 Chikwaka pounced on Sandra Zvomuya (38) after she disembarked from a commuter omnibus at Heroes bus stop in the same village.
He pretended to be heading the same direction with Zvomuya and suddenly produced an okapi knifed demanding some cash from the woman who fell to the ground as she attempted to flee.
He grabbed the woman on the neck, searched her handbag and took US$15 and a cellphone.
Chikwaka also broke into her grandmother Alice Chikwaka’s house after she had gone to work at Gozha Primary School in Bhora where she is employed as a teacher.
He stole household property, clothes and blankets among other goods.
On another day, Chikwaka went to his uncle Anderson Chikwama’s house where he broke a window panel and fished out a pair of shoes and US$120 before he was arrested.
Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
