PROMINENT traditional healer, Sekuru Kamwelo Banda, has joined the fight against cholera.
The cholera outbreak has so far claimed 32 lives while over 7 000 cases have been recorded mainly in Harare and surrounding areas.
The 44-year-old traditional healer, popularly known as Sekuru Banda, toured Glen View on Thursday.
He donated hygienic products to scores of families in Harare’s high density suburb.
Sekuru Banda also hailed Government’s efforts to curb the disease and urged Zimbabweans to strictly follow health experts’ advice regardless of religious affiliation. President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited Glen View on Wednesday to assess the situation.
The Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo has been championing the fight against cholera.
“As traditional healers, we appreciate Government’s effort in the fight against cholera.
“Minister Moyo has prioritised the fight against cholera, which shows that Government is taking the outbreak very seriously. I urge all Zimbabweans to unite against cholera, follow all the instructions given by expert medical persons regardless of one’s religious affiliation,” Sekuru Banda told the media.
“It’s also good that corporates like Econet have joined in the fight against this deadly disease.” Mobile network service provider Econet poured in $10 million towards the noble cause.
Other corporates like Zimplats, Total Zimbabwe, PSMI and the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) have also chipped in with support.
While in Glen View, Sekuru Banda visited the Nyamweda family and consoled them following the loss of Mrs Jane Nyamweda to cholera a couple of days ago.
